Teen makes thousands playing video games

JUPITER, Fla., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Parlaying a parent's worst fears, a Florida teenager dropped out of school and now is making thousands of dollars -- playing video games.
Tom Taylor -- his gaming handle is Tsquared -- has a six-figure income through gaming contracts, product endorsements and a video game tutoring business, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post said.
He's one of about 100 professional gamers affiliated with Major League Gaming, a video game league founded in 2002.
"My job is really time consuming," Taylor, Jupiter, Fla., told the Post. "Just recently ... I've been able to relax a little bit."
Taylor's been featured on the front page of The Wall Street Journal and was No. 1 on Stuff magazine's "The Power List: the Top 20 under 30."
Taylor, 18, began playing when he was 4 and by the time he was 6 or 7 could defeat almost anyone, the Post said. When gaming began conflicting with school, Taylor and his mother talked about alternatives.
In the end, Taylor left school and agreed to get his GED, the Post said.
